camera shy?

I truly cannot believe it's been since April that I wrote a line on my own blog. This will be my second post of 2013! I have thought many times to "post something" yet it hasn't happened. I have photos I've taken which, at the time, I thought warranted writing about. I have images from Latvia from my 2012 trip which haven't even made it Flickr. Is life really THAT busy?

I've realized it's time for me to slow down & maybe smell a rose or two. There are many reasons to come to a screeching halt in one's life. For me, it's to do something I've missed; like this. And like photography and sketching. I can't even recall the last time I picked up a pencil to draw something! (I will admit I do draw something on that addictive app!)

I was out yesterday (before golf) to finally head (no pun intended) to the BOW downtown Calgary to take some shots of the sculpture in front of the building. I was walking around it, contemplating different ways to capture said head. I'm sure they've all be done before and that's great. It was still fun.

This was taken by lying on the ground. Try not to look up the nose.

I like the one below since it looks as though the head is napping.

I've heard different comments on this sculpture. Some like it & some people just don't. Why not? What's not to like? I think it's interesting & I like the placement. The white of the head really speaks to the lines in the building mostly due to the building being so rigid (yet curved). In any case, it was a quick photo shoot before a lovely golf game. Totally worth the trip downtown.

any power?

As mentioned in my last post, I've been studying for the three NCIDQ exams. There certainly hasn't been much else going on due to that either!

Last week I chose to get a book from the library. I suppose I just felt "done" with studying - at least for a bit. All I've said when someone asked what I want when these exams are done, & all I've said was "a novel!". So, I got one early. I found the "out" of watching television when I needed a break from studying, wasn't really me. I wanted a novel to read & that's what I have. The book is called Mark of the Assassin by Daniel Silva.
I've read many many books by Daniel Silva & I love them (thank you Peter for introducing them to me). The one I'm reading currently is one of his earlier novels. It's quite good. I have noticed some of the characters he has in the series of novels I've read kinda introduced in this book (I think there's two books in this series where there's 11 in the other series). The characters names are the same & they have similar rolls but they seem to "look" a little different.

Aside from that, I actually grabbed my camera after nearly 4 months! It was sitting on my floor in its bag patiently waiting for this all to be done. I walked up my steps to my condo this evening & saw this relatively large icicle dripping down from my handrail. I immediately walked in my condo & grabbed my camera & macro lens. The shots are not the best but I'm happy just to take my camera out again.

I really did give up my life while I was studying....... now to sort out a trip to go on. That's what I REALY want! (:

busy

Life certainly changes. Nothing is ever the same no matter what. (:

I was reading a blog from this woman writing her NCIDQ practicum test April 6, 2013 just as I am. It made me think about my own blog & my lack of attention to it lately. I have been studying not only for the NCIDQ practicum but also for the two multiple choice exams which fall on April 18, 2013. I did pick that day but sadly have to write in Edmonton due to the exam spots filling up here in Calgary. Nutty!

Anyway, that is my life right now. My friend Jenn is quizzing me tonight over a glass (or two) of wine. We may as well make it fun!
Sorry, no image to add to this. Just words.
