prose

Occasionally I write poetry. Not poetry in the traditional sense being that it does not rhyme or anything. Generally, it's thoughts I have & I put them on paper in some sort of visual manner - or they are for me. Ultimately, they are all just short stories.

I started the piece below on January 8 & fixed it up today. It may or may not be done but for some reason I wanted to post it. It means something yet nothing all at the same time.

Wondering

Sunshine surrounds her
Warmth radiates from her heart
& she embraces life with love.

She has walked alone for many years
occasionally stumbling but always
finding her footing again & again.

She looks for strays to be close to.
Some appear to admire her, love her
but none of them stay long.

She has felt pain; emotional pain
all due to love.
Eventually the pain dissipates & she stands strong.

Alone...
again.
When will it be forever?

427 3 Ave NE

I need to begin by saying this is not my project. I have a friend of mine who is an architectural designer & this is her job. These images will be on her site.

The only reason I am posting these images is due to taking them for her. I like them & even with the real estate restrictions, I was able to get the whole addition in the shot.

There are a few "hotspots" in the image but it really could not be helped - nice sunny day & even though it was morning, it is winter & the sun is low.

January 15 note:
I showed these to my friend who is a photographer & told him about what I didn't love about these images. He agreed & told me how to fix the issue. These will be re-shot at a later time.

She also designed the security bars on this window. Very nice!!

new environment

Yesterday I was at my boyfriend's place & wanted to draw something. I was thinking of drawing him but I knew he was going to move (get up to make something in the kitchen) so I opted to just look around where I was & draw what was in front of me. My foot was on the 'coffee table' crossed over my other leg so I thought I'd just draw what was literally in front of me.

slipper

I did this sketch pretty fast all around. I'm not unhappy with it by any means. I was wearing jeans which were fairly dark in colour so seeing the folds of the fabric was a bit tough. The way my calf was pushed out (from crossing over my other leg) doesn't really show well.

before they shrivel up

I bought these button mushrooms the other day for dinner but didn't end up using them. I'll pass them to my boyfriend so he can use them instead (which is more likely). Then yesterday, I was a friend's house & we were looking through different watercolour art books (which are geared to teach you how to do watercolours or at least inspire you to pick up your brushes!) and saw a painting done of some mushrooms. Realizing that I had mushrooms at home, I thought I'd draw them before I passed them on. In hind site, I should have scanned in the sketch before I added the ink but considering how long it took me to get my scanner working, likely best I went straight to the ink.

button mushrooms

I drew this in my Bateman 6x9 sketchbook & used my new Pentel ink brush pen my sister bought me for Christmas. I have not used a pen like this before so this is my first attempt with it. I do like it but it's very BLACK! I also toned it down a bit with water for the shadows & a few other areas too.

The mushrooms look a bit flat but it may be due to using a pen I'm not used to yet. Well, that's the story I'm sticking to regardless. (:
