Continuing with the tulips...
This time I used my water colour pencils to do this painting (is it a painting?).
This was also a quick drawing then I added water to spread the colour. It actually looks very similar to the tulip I was drawing (clearly I think it is a drawing not a painting).
I used the imperial purple, crimson lake (red), and two shades of green for this piece (grass green and mineral green). The brand of the water colour pencils is Rexel Derwent and it is a set of 12 colours. My pencils are very old so I believe the brand is now just Derwent.
I do not use these pencils very often because I don't really know the best way to use them. I guess that means it is YouTube™ time!

single tulip
left and right
The other day I found a really old sketchbook. I am not sure why I still have not finished using a sketchbook that I bought over 20 years ago. It is a larger sketchbook so that could be why. I rarely sketch larger pieces.
I sketched the left hand one day and the right the next day. I did used my left hand to draw my right hand. I was in the mood to do something quickly so these are clearly not shaded well at all. I ended up only using an H lead pencil to do both drawings.
It is funny how often I have drawn hands in my life and when I was younger, I was very detailed with them. Now I do them fast without much detail at all.
I do have an idea for a drawing which will cause me to do a hand in detail again. I wonder when I will ever get to it? I have had the idea for well over a month!

purple and yellow
Last week I decided to buy myself some tulips and to buy two bundles, one yellow and one purple. Those colours are complimentary colours and they are two of my favourite colours or maybe they are my favourite colours. 💜💛 😊
Either way, I used my new water colours to paint them. The first day I did the centre flower then the next day I added the three behind. I will say that I did not really plan out the composition and it's obvious.
The centre flower has a petal falling down which is what's showing in the foreground. The two yellow tulips turned out okay. I did not add much detail to them which is also okay, these were meant to be quick, almost like sketches.
Paints used were Winsor and Newton half pans in violet, olive green, and lemon yellow. I did add a bit of blue to the stems but I cannot say which blue.

stippling
Back in 1990, I had a project to do for school (college). I cannot say I recall the actual assignment, what I can say is that I still have the project today. I found it a few months ago and decided to have it rest on my desk. I won't bother adding a photo of it, I'll just add the one I did the other day.
All I did was use all of the coloured markers in my Art Bin (which doesn't seem to be sold any longer) aside from brown and black. The markers are of different sized tips so that's why the stipples are smaller and larger depending on the colour. The markers with a larger tip size definitely turned out better. The orange (the largest sphere) has the smallest tip size.
In the end, this was a fun and very meditative drawing to do. The drawing from 1990 is better and I would say that I took more time to do it; or did I do it because I could do it quickly and move onto another assignment?
The markers used were Microns in the felt tip variety.

flowers and colours
What I have been doing lately when learning from YouTube is that I watch the video then go back and just leave the video where I want to reference it. So Thursday I found another YouTube video which I decided to follow. I downloaded the outline and did my best.
All around I am happy with the results. The gal in the video uses liquid water colours and I wonder if that is why her pigments are stronger. It is either that, or I am using too much water!

I used a similar technique to make this painting of a daffodil. I did not follow any instruction at all for this one (yay!). The more I look at it, the more I like it. This one I sent to my mother for a Mother's Day card. I hope she doesn't read this before she receives the card!
And I did paint the rainbow dandelion again for my friend's birthday card and she loved it! I called the card "make a wish" since I view the scattering seeds as plants for her birthday wish. I may like her card more than the original one I made.
When I saw her yesterday, I showed her a few of the other paintings I have completed and she wants one of the iris so I will make that one again for her.
And lastly, I did finish the tree by adding colour to it. I feel it turned out rather well all around. I call it the "Chakra tree" due to the person for who it's meant and due to the colours used.
It has been a great week of water colour paintings!
